Spotlight – In international business, almost every market around the world does things in a different way. This often leads to misunderstandings and unfulfilled expectations. However, different does not need to mean difficult and knowledge of the needs and characteristics of specific geographic markets is an advantage to those who are active in the global economy. These articles help you understand different aspects of the insurance industry around the world, enabling those who do business there to feel more “at home, abroad.”

The CEA (Comité Européen des Assurances) is the European federation for insurers and reinsurers. It is a forum for analysis and debate on all issues and proposed legislation which are relevant to the insurance industry. Having been established more than 50 years ago, it has an important voice in discussions on Solvency II, insurance distribution, insurance guarantee schemes and pensions to cite a few. The CEA also hosts workshops and holds international conferences designed to attract key players and decision-makers in not only the European but also the global insurance and reinsurance industry. Recently, it held the Third CEA International Conference in Athens and they have kindly agreed to tell us a bit about what was discussed and explain in some detail what their role is in Europe and the world. For more information, please go to their website, www.cea.eu or contact Ms Janina Clark, Head of Communications and PR at clark@cea.eu

The Presse Internationale des Assurances – “PIA”

Following our recent invitation to join the PIA, we have received an interesting article “On how Luxembourg saved us from discrimination” which appeared in POJISTNÝ OBZOR (www.cap.cz), the quarterly magazine of the Czech insurance industry. We are grateful to Mgr Jan Cigánik, editor in-chief and any questions should be directed to him at jan.ciganik@cap.cz
